Spring Garden

This garden features a variety of rhododendrons and azaleas that bloom continuously from April to early July. Colours range from yellow to orange, pink to scarlet and purple. This is where our honeybees find nectar in early spring. Behind the rhododendrons and azaleas are four different species of clematis ― 8 to 10 feet tall ― that form a striking background throughout the summer.

Opposite the Spring garden is a living fence we call our “whispering pines” with various conifers native to Ontario. They provide housing for numerous robins, cardinals, chickadees and wrens. Cottontails and hares spend winter under the low bows of the blue and black spruce. The trees are underplanted with stunning hydrangeas ― “blushing bride”, “vanille fraise” and “pinky winky”.  They provide continuous colour throughout the summer.
